Note for Team Entry Payments
This race is licensed by the Trail Running Association and will be conducted under UK Athletics rules. As event organisers, we are required to submit details of number of runners to the TRA. This information includes gender, registration to a registered UK Athletics club, etc., no personal information. We understand that at the time of entry, clubs may not know which athletes will run each leg, and therefore it may be impractical to identify affiliated or unaffiliated runners at that stage.
To simplify matters and to allow you to secure your team’s place without immediate differentiation, the Hereward Relay team entry fee is set at £80, based on the assumption that all team members are affiliated to an England Athletics club.
When your team line-up is finalised, if any team members are not affiliated, you will be contacted to pay a balance of £2 per unaffiliated athlete. The same principle applies to the Hereward Relay pair entry: it is also set at £80 assuming both runners are affiliated, and any unaffiliated participants will incur the same additional fee once the pair selection is confirmed.
In doing so, we aim to make it as straightforward as possible for you to enter your teams without the need to identify individual affiliation status at the point of entry.
Traditionally the Hereward Relay and Ultra takes place on the 4th Sunday of November each year. So the next event will be held on Sunday 23rd November 2025 (assuming all permissions are granted and that the venues are available).

The Hereward Relay was first run in 1998 when 14 teams took part and has since grown with as many as 117 teams taking part in 2018! The race starts in Peterborough and follows (as far as possible) the Hereward Way for over 39 miles to Ely crossing over bridleways, fields, bridges and tracks and is therefore unsuitable for wheelchair users. Relay teams consist of four members who each run one stage. Those feeling more ambitious or looking for a tougher challenge can take on the ultra and run all 39 miles solo to become a local legend.
For 2025 the Ultra Race will start at 7.30am followed by the Relay at 9am. All Ultra entries and Stage 1 runners must register before the start.
