March AC juniors are for athletes between the ages of 6 and 18 and meet every Thursday evening at the end of the running track.
Junior sessions are led by a volunteer team including England Athletics qualified coaches and assistant coaches. We run two groups which offer differing levels of instruction and different activities.
Session 1: 18:00 – 19:00
Session 2: 18:45 – 19:45
For training, we use the 100m track, the field and during the summer months we are able to open the sandpit for long jump. Members of the later group are also able to enjoy runs into the nature reserve during the summer months, once they have reached a certain level of fitness.
Members over the age of 9 compete in the Frostbite Friendly League which consists of 6 free races, each of just over a mile, during the winter months. We also have entries in the County Cross Country Championships and encourage attendance at some of the open track and field events during the summer months.
Unfortunately, we sometimes have to operate a waiting list for coaching, but this does not stop juniors from joining the club and running at events.
Junior members who want to keep running are supported into the senior club when they are ready to transition to the longer distances. Some choose to follow a coaching pathway and we have supported several through their Duke Of Edinburgh Award units as well as and providing opportunities for CWA students on coaching pathways to complete their practical tasks. We are also proud to have seen athletes come through the junior section to become coaches themselves.
