A friendly running club in March, Cambridgeshire, going since 1976.
March Athletic Club was formed on Monday 24 May 1976, and has run from Elm Road Sports Field since October 2009. We are affiliated to England Athletics, we have senior and junior sections under one committee, and we are run entirely by volunteers.
Two coached sessions a week, a Sunday long run when there is an appetite for it, races across the Fens, and a group that waits at the top of the hill. Every pace is welcome and nobody gets left behind.
Properly coached
| 1 | Qualified UKA coach |
| 5 | Assistant coaches |
| 6 | Qualified first aiders |
Sessions are built so that everyone works equally hard for the same length of time, which means the fast and the not-so-fast finish together. What runs when →
What we do
Races we host
The Hereward Relay & Ultra in November — a relay and a solo ultra along the Hereward Way — and the Whitemoor 5 Miler and Fun Run each July from Elm Road. Both licensed by England Athletics, and both need marshals.
Races we turn out for
The Frostbite League every winter since 1999, free to members, and the Round Norfolk Relay each September — 198 miles and seventeen stages, which takes far more people than it takes runners.
Juniors
The junior section takes children from their sixth birthday, with its own coaches and its own sessions. A sub-committee runs it, with representatives on the main committee. Most young members move across to the senior section around sixteen, and there is a deliberate path for doing that safely.
